George Trifon was part of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Men’s Hockey coaching staff 2004 - 2017 as an assistant coach. Within his tenure, the Varsity Blues program has fielded many top 10 nationally ranked teams, graduating many players who have progressed to the professional level. Simultaneously, he has been the head coach and skills coach for of multiple minor hockey teams in the GTA.
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Trifon has two degrees, Bachelor of Commerce ’04 and Bachelor of Education ’05. As a player (1999-2004), he had an impressive varsity career. Trifon was a 2 time Ontario University Athletics (OUA) all-star, as well as a 2 time U of T leading scorer. His play and dedication to both athletics and academics landed him University of Toronto athlete of the year nominations in four of his five-year university career.
Trifon had a 4 year (1994-1999) junior career with the Stouffville Spirit and Pickering Panthers of the OPJHL, in which he was named league MVP ’99, as well as, capturing the Eastern Conference scoring title. In 1996, Trifon was drafted to the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL.
He is also a teacher specializing in Health and Physical Education, Weight Training, and Business/Economics with the Toronto District School Board since 2005.
